This report builds on the 2016 Cities United document, “Violence Trends, Patterns, and Consequences for Black Males in America: A Call to Action.” It presents the findings from a thorough review of research literature focused on violence prevention interventions. The report highlights effective programs and practices that have successfully reduced violence and violent deaths among African American males. It demonstrates that evidence-based interventions can be implemented in various settings, including families, schools, workplaces, hospitals, and communities. These interventions aim to prevent violence rather than merely responding to it after the fact. In conclusion, the report summarizes its findings and offers recommendations to support local violence prevention initiatives across the country.
This is the second report in a two-part series examining violence and violent deaths among Black males in the U.S. The series was commissioned by Cities United and Casey Family Programs and produced by Forward Change.
