Striving and Thriving: Closing Racial Mobility Gaps Across Generations

Striving and Thriving: Closing Racial Mobility Gaps Across Generations

Abstract

The first report in the Striving and Thriving series examines current intergenerational mobility patterns and racial disparities in the United States across multiple dimensions: income and education, referred to as “striving,” and physical and mental health, or “thriving.” In addition, this report examines growing evidence that people of color and those from low-income backgrounds may trade their health for their educational and economic success.
